After the achievement of remission, there are survivorhood issues to face, including the continuing consciousness of the fragility of existence. And, on the practical level, living with brain damage and degraded vision as a consequence of the downside of radiotherapy. Some of the poems, including the praise poem for Saddam Hussein, were written at a time when it seemed that cancer had returned, and that the probable outcome would be death.
